Cubic Zirconia Cleaning Guide
How To Clean Cubic Zirconia Rings And Jewellery
If you're feeling a little lost on how to clean your Cubic Zirconia jewellery, we've got the perfect guide to help you through the entire process, so it can keep sparkling and dazzling without any fuss.
Cubic Zirconia, (also known as CZ's) is a great real diamond alterative, known for its brilliance, durability, and affordability. While Cubic Zirconia certainly look similar to diamonds, they do not share the same chemical composition, but they do share the same sparkle! Both diamonds and Cubic Zirconia require a little TLC for upkeep to maintain their shine and lustre over time.
Understanding Cubic Zirconia
First, let's dive into the nature of Cubic Zirconia, so you can better understand why it can sometimes turn slightly cloudy. Cubic Zirconia are manufactured gemstones that are colourless, made up of the crystalline form of Zirconium Dioxide. Their natural colourlessness allows manufactures to colour them with colouring agents. Their gemstones are not as hard as real diamonds, but they're still more durable than most gemstones.
Overtime, a pesky build up of debris, cosmetics, and other everyday materials can cause your jewellery to lose its radiance, and become a breeding ground for bacteria. Rather than letting this happen, you can keep your pieces looking radiant with very little effort and a few small tips.
Cubic Zirconia Cleaning Care
- Soft-bristle toothbrush or soft cloth
- Mild dish soap or liquid detergent
- Warm water
- Microfibre cloth
Step 1: Preparing the Cleaning Solution
Create a cleaning solution by mixing a few drops of mild dish soap. or liquid detergent with warm water in a small bowl. Do not use harsh chemicals, bleach or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the Cubic Zirconia and its setting. You may find people who clean their Cubic Zirconia with baking soda or toothpaste, however we prefer to not use these methods.
Step 2: Soaking the Jewellery
Place the Cubic Zirconia jewellery you wish to clean in the cleaning solution and allow it to soak for around 10 minutes. This will help loosen any dirt, oils, or residue trapped in and around the gemstone and its setting. Avoid soaking jewellery that contains other delicate gemstones such as pearls as they might be sensitive to water, and soaking may disturb the glue holding any of these stones or pearls in place.
Step 3: Cleaning the Jewellery
After soaking, take a soft-bristle toothbrush or soft cloth and scrub the Cubic Zirconia and its setting gently. Do not use excessive pressure as it can cause scratching or damage. Be sure to reach all the crevices and intricate areas where dirt may accumulate.
Step 4: Rinsing and Drying
Rinse the jewellery under warm running water thoroughly to remove any remaining cleaning solution. After rinsing, pat the piece dry with a microfibre cloth or lint-free towel. Avoid air-drying, as it may leave water spots.
Step 5: Polishing your Cubic Zirconia Jewellery
To give your Cubic Zirconia jewellery that extra shine, use a dry microfibre or lint-free polishing cloth to gently buff the gemstone. This will remove any remaining smudges and enhance its brilliance and shine.
Step 6: Storing the Jewellery
When you take off your Cubic Zirconia jewellery, store it in a separate pouch to prevent scratching or tangling. All of your jewellery from R O M E E L A comes with a free microfiber pouch for every product to keep them separate and safe.
Additional Tips:
- Remove your Cubic Zirconia jewellery before engaging in activities that may expose it to chemicals or potential damage such as household cleaning or sports.
- Avoid direct contact with perfume, lotions or other beauty products that can cause the stone's sparkle to become dull over time.
